Alder (Italian)

Alnus cordata

The beauty of this plant is the foliage which remains lush and green, even in drought conditions. The bark and branching structure provide winter interest. This tree is remarkably durable and trouble-free and should be planted more, especially in difficult growing conditions. Although beautiful in the summer and respectable in the winter, spring and fall may be somewhat anti-climatic with the lack of showy flowers and fall color. A medium-sized tree topping out at about 40’-50’.
