Bristlecone Pine, or Pinus aristata, is a native of the western United States. Extremely slow-growing, it makes an excellent choice either for rock gardens or as a foundation plant. It grows 8'-20' tall. Bristlecone Pine is a reliable, trouble-free specimen plant.
An interesting note: The oldest known Bristlecone Pine, growing on Black Mountain in Colorado, was estimated to be 2,480 years old in 1992. Most Bristlecones, however, rarely surpass 1,500 years of age, though that is, of course, a very ripe, old age!
