Maple, Red 'Sun Valley'

Red spring flowers. Nice shade. Exceptional fall color. The Red Maple is a great tree that tolerates urban conditions better than the Sugar Maple. The red Maple as a species is an ornamental inferiority when compared to the Sugar Maple but selections such as 'Sun Valley' have been made for superior ornamental traits and these cultivars are almost as desirable as the Sugar Maple while being more amenable to culture. 'Sun Valley has smaller leaves and a lovely orange-red fall color.

Best used as specimen or in groupings. Spring flowers and fall color is enhanced by evergreens. Pruning to develop structure is very important as this tree is prone to developing co-dominant stems. Grows 50'-60 high and 30'-40' wide. Red Maples are widely planted, sometimes to the point of creating mono-cultures / choose another tree if you or your neighbors have 10% or more of this species.
